BIOGRAPHY
May Leichi is an artist based in Queens, New York. Born in Taiwan and raised in New York City, she has lived in South Africa before immigrating to the United States as a child. She creates oil and acrylic paintings, portraitures, and mixed media collages that explore cultural identities, social realities, and spiritual meanings from the Bible. Inspired by her faith, love of color, and the beauty of natural forms, her subjects include human faces and bodies, still lifes, landscapes, animal portraits, and surrealist narratives. ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is a means for worship, spiritual nourishment and social and cultural engagement. The creative process is where I work out personal and theological reflections in visual forms. I use a variety of mediums to explore faith and identity narratives, many of which are inspired by meditations on the Bible, theological concepts, and life experiences.
